Since vanilla is not a Ugandan traditional crop, not a lot of farmers consider growing it. Plus, because it is highly specialised, there are very few entrepreneurs involved in production and processing.

VANEX strives to be a leader in training production and processing practices of vanilla. Some VANEX members are pioneers in the Uganda vanilla industry. As self-taught producers, they have gone through a lot of trial and error, consequently developing expertise.

Now VANEX is taking the lead to collaborate with the government to popularise vanilla such that its domesticated. Vanilla is a high-value crop with the potential to deliver Ugandans out of poverty.
